Zolfo finished second on his only start to date in a Dromahane four year old maiden. Trained by Vincent Halley the debutant was always in a prominent position. Having travelled into the race well the Cloudings gelding came to challenge at the second last. Looking booked for third approaching finial fence, Zolfo was left second by a faller. However to his credit he ran all the way to the line finishing six lengths behind the winner who was subsequently sold for 90,000 euro. This was a very pleasing debut from an individual who looks sure to progress. The four year old is an own brother to Dallas Cloud a dual winner between the flags.

NoMoreBlackJack won the five year old maiden at Fairyhoue on his fifth start between the flags. Trained by Kieran Purcell the five year old had finished second on two of his previous starts. Bouncing out and making all under JJ Slevin the son of Robin De Pres travelled very strongly throughout. He put his experience to good use keeping on well to win by a length from the previously placed Lough Derg Jewel. The third horse Drumlynn was second on his next start. The winner is out of an Alderbrook mare who also bred Windy Writer placed in a novice hurdle.

Sham From Milan finished second on his only start to date in a four year old maiden at Oldcastle. Settled towards the rear in the early part of the race the debutant improved into contention on the run to the third last. Ciaran Murphy's charge got markedly tired after the penultimate obstacle and was unable to quicken with the first pair who pulled well clear. Left second by a last fence faller the four year old came home a distance second to a smart winner in Monbeg Oscar. He looks sure to improve for the experience. The bay is out of an unraced dam a half sister to a twelve time winner Great Love, she has also bred Earthpower a dual points winner.

Espoir De Teillee was mightily impressive in the manner in which he travelled effortlessly through his race on debut at Athlacca as he eased his way to the front on the final circuit before pulling clear from the penultimate fence. A debut success looked assured before he slid to the ground in west conditions at the final fence, having appeared to jump the fence without making any mistake, and as a result he has to be considered most unfortunate. There was clear great confidence behind him going into the race as he was well-supported in the market, and this French-bred certainly delivered on that on the track. He looks a very classy performer detained for a high level on the track.
P2P.ie Review
Slanelough shaped with real encouragement on his debut when finishing a close second behind Secret Investor at Athlacca on Good ground. The Westerner gelding deserves real credit for that performance as he had raced keenly in the early stages until reaching the front at the fourth fence, and those early exertions certainly would have taken their toll. A sharp type, he is a half-brother to Punchestown Bumper winner Potters Point, and on the evidence of his opening Athlacca effort should be capable of matching that Bumper success in the near future as he looks to have plenty of gears.
P2P.ie Review
Calino D’Airy acquitted himself very strongly to competitive action as he out-battled his nearest rival in a real gutsy manner to prevail in a race which saw the front pair impressively pull 8 lengths clear of the third horse. The French-bred son of Anzillero appears to have plenty of pace about him, as when injected an increase in tempo on the climb to the home straight, only the runner-up Instant Replay was able to quicken with him, leaving a number of form horses trailing in their wake, including the previously placed Novemberstorm and Largy Bull both of whom had finished closer to the winner on their previous outings. A very capable type on the evidence of this debut performance, he looks very smart.
Super Follo, who finished third behind Minella Warrior at Athlacca, won a Maiden 4YO P2P at Bartlemy by 3 lengths on Sunday 15 May.
P2P.ie Review
Minella Warrior only found the impressive Lough Derg Spirit too good when making a smart debut at Athlacca earlier this month when finishing a very encouraging second. Sent off the joint-favourite, the son of King’s Theatre, who is out of a half-sister to the Grade 1 winner and 169 top-rated Menorah, held every chance at the final fence before only Lough Derg Spirit was able to pull clear of him. That horse had the benefit of a previous run when finishing third in a very competitive maiden at Loughanmore which gives this a race a strong look about it. This was a taking debut from a horse who should be more than capable of enjoying track success next season.
P2P.ie Review: Going Gold made the perfect start to his competitive career with a winning debut at Bartlemy on Sunday. Out of a Rudimentary mare who was placed behind subsequent dual-Grade 3 winner For Bill on her only start in a Point-to-Point at Aghabullogue, this son of Gold Well produced a nice turn of foot to defeat a more experienced rival, Cave Top by a length-and-a-half, with a further four-and-a-half lengths back to the well-bred Pulp Fiction, a €36,000 store who finished in third. The runner-up brought a solid line of form into the race having finished fourth, beaten just over 8 lengths by Lost Frequency on sole previous outing at Taylorstown earlier in the month. Once kicking from home at the second-last, he produced a notable turn of foot and could never be reeled in as he led home a one, two, three for his owners and he looks more than capable of enjoying track success.
P2P.ie Review. Cave Top looks a progressive individual as he stepped-up on the promise of his initial outing at Taylorstown when finishing fourth, to chase home the similarly Monbeg Syndicate-owned Going Gold at Bartlemy. On debut, the bay gelding held every chance racing along the back straight on the final circuit, before getting slightly out-paced on the turn for home. To his credit he galloped all the way to the line, and on the evidence of his latest start at Bartlemy, where he was only beaten by a length and a half, it suggests that he has certainly benefitted for that introductory run. Both starts to date have come on Good ground and the son of Court Cave clearly excels in these conditions, although his dam, a Top Of The World mare, did win a 2m2f Handicap Hurdle on the track on Heavy ground, to suggest he may be capable of handling softer ground in the future.
P2P.ie Review
Fiscal Space has to be considered a most unfortunate looser following his debut effort at Ballysteen as he had just taken up a narrow advantage approaching the final fence, where a mistake at the final fence proved costly as his rider also became unbalanced a number of strides after the fence, allowing the eventual winner to once again hit the front. Only for that mistake, he would have been a tough opponent to pass. Maiden success looks assured for him following this opening effort and he looks a sharp type who can certainly drop back to become a successful middle distance track performer.

Spiritofthegames made the best possible start to his competitive career when getting off the mark at the first time of asking at Lisronagh. Appearing to handle the Good-to-Firm ground conditions around a sharp track, the son of Darsi looks to have plenty of pace as he easily increased the tempo of the race entering the back straight which forced a number of his rivals off the bridle. Despite then putting in a slow leap at the fourth-last which cost him the lead and valuable momentum, the bay gelding quickly responded to pressure and pulled a length clear of his rivals by the penultimate fence. Even when joined at the last, he continued to find more to overcome a more experienced rival Tree Of Liberty, who was the even-money favourite having finished second on his debut to provide a strong form line to the race. Out of a track winning King’s Ride mare who has already produced five track winners, Spiritofthegames appears to have plenty of gears and will be suited by a drop back in trip.
P2P.ie Review
Ravenhill Road created a lofty impression for himself with the manner of his effortless success at Broughshane on debut where he barely came off the bridle to record a wide-margin 15 length success. Whilst his rivals were under real under pressure to try and keep tabs on him as his rider Ben Crawford sat motionless leaving those around him to being to drop away one-by-one. Out of a Zaffaran mare who was a four-time winner on the track, we have not seen his real capabilities as yet, as he was not required to reach anything near top gear in order to record that wide margin success and he is a very exciting type.

Mere Detail stepped-up on an initial seventh placing at Inch on her debut to run out a cosy winner of her four-year-old maiden at Curraheen on just her second career outing. Always up with the pace, the Definite Article mare was one of three horses to jump the final fence upsides before staying-on best of all to beat a horse who had finished a solid fourth on debut. Well-bred out of a half-sister to three-time Grade 3 winner Grangeclare Lark, Mere Detail is a half-sister to the six-time track winner Grangeclare Gold who was placed in a Grade 3 contest, and Grade 2 winner Real Steel.

Tree of Liberty has finished second on his only two starts to date. Beaten only three quarters of a length on his latest start at Lisronagh the son of Stowaway looks a smart sort. Sitting in third for much of the journey the Jamie Codd ridden gelding quickened up nicely and mounted a challenge at the last. A good jump here ensured a good tussle to the line where the smart looking winner came out on top. The Denis Murphy trained four year old is out of a dam who won over hurdles is half sister to multiple winner Bewleys Berry rated 144 over fences for Howard Johnson.

Summer Getaway was one of a number of horses to exit the race at the third-last fence on his debut at Tyrella back in March whilst still travelling well just tracking the leader, and he appeared to be in the process of running a big opening race. This was followed-up by a solid fourth placing at Lisccaroll on Good ground behind Judgement Day who was subsequently purchased by Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins for £145,000 at the Goffs UK Aintree Sale, and the form of that race appears to be working out very well with The Two Amigos, who finished behind him winning at Ballysteen, whilst Getabird has also come out of the race and won at Largy before topping the Goffs Punchestown Sale when purchased for €200,000. Summer Getaway almost became the third subsequent maiden winner to emerge from that race when only defeated by the narrowest of margins, a short-head, around a sharp track at Grennan on Good to Firm. By Getaway who is enjoying a great Spring with his first crop of four-year-old’s, Summer Getaway heads to the sales with some strong form behind him and will likely not remain a maiden for long.

Instant Replay narrowly missed out on recording a debut success as Broughshane earlier this month as the son of Fruits Of Love was only beaten by half-a-length. Always racing up with the pace, he showed a sharp turn of foot to quicken alongside the eventual winner Calino D’Airy on the climb uphill towards the home straight, in a move which caught the remainder of their rivals flat footed. Although defeated by such a narrow margin, this appeared to be a quality performance from the chestnut gelding as there was an 8 length break back to third horse. Impressively that was a more experienced rival who had brought the strongest form into the race having finished third, beaten just 5 lengths at Largy, whilst the fourth horse also had solid form behind him from that contest, which offers real encouragement to the performance produced by Instant Replay.

Flower Ball made his debut in a very hot maiden at Loughanmore over Easter and he offered plenty of encouragement that opening effort which saw him race close to the pace throughout, before a mistake at the penultimate fence cost him his chance of a solid finish and he was wisely pulled-up. Re-appearing on quicker ground at Taylorstown, a chance of tactics were employed aboard the son of Ballingarry which saw him ridden with greater restraint towards the rear of the field, which saw him stay-on powerfully from a long way back to grab a third-placed finish in the closing strides. The bay gelding is clearly improving and looks a progressive type.
P2P.ie Review
Hecansting has really thrived this Spring finishing placed on both of his last two starts on Good ground at Dromahane when he was only beaten by just over 3 lengths and at Dawstown where there was only 2 lengths separating him from the race winner Coroner’s Report. With this consistency sure to stand to him, he is not far from securing his own maiden success and he appears to be really benefitting from the switch to nicer ground.
P2P.ie Review
Left Back is a horse who appears to be continually learning about the game as he showed signs of greenness on both starts to date, beginning with his sixth placed finish at Ballynoe in early April. The son of Oscar appeared to act on the quick ground when racing positively from the front at Taylorstown four weeks later in what was a much improved showing. Still holding strong claims on the approach to the home straight, the bay gelding simply got too close to the penultimate fence and was an unlucky faller which likely to be involved.
P2P.ie Review
The Milan-mare Lenten Rose is a well-bred type who is out of a half-sister to the Grade 1 RSA Chase third Battlecry and Grade 2 winner Value At Risk, and she has backed-up that pedigree with a progressive start to her racing career this season in four-year-old maiden’s. Eighth on debut at Inch behind Big Robin, when 2 lengths in arrears of Mere Detail, there was again little separating the pair when they met once again at Curraheen. Jumping the last upsides and holding every chance, Lenten Rose was only run out recording her maiden success up the run-in and is clearly progressing all the time.

Having parted company with his rider on his opening two competitive outings, Fridaynightlights appeared better suited by making the running when finishing third on his first completed start at Dawstown earlier this month as he jumped with much greater fluency. Once headed after the third-last, the bay gelding was unable to match the front pair inside the closing stages, however to his credit he continued to stay-on and was ultimately beaten by just over 8 lengths in what looked a competitive contest. Out of a Presenting mare who is a full-sister to Grade 1 winner Jessies Dream he should be well capable of building upon this promise.
P2p.ie Review
A Game Of Chance had failed to complete his opening two starts which came in competitive four-year-old maiden’s at Templemore and Largy last season, however a 12 month break appears to have done him the world of good allowing him to develop fully resulting in him winning first time out in his five-year-old campaign despite having to return from that break. Under an enterprising ride which saw him make all, racing clear of the field in parts, the Stowaway gelding demonstrated a battling attitude to quicken clear of his rivals when joined at the penultimate fence to prevail by a increasing 6 lengths.

Huntsman Son made the best possible start to his competitive career when making a winning debut at Horse and Jockey in a strongly run Confined race. Quite surprisingly for a hunt race, this clocked one of the fastest times of the day, some 8 seconds faster than the day’s average and Huntsman Son raced up with that strong gallop, burning off all his rivals on the final circuit who were unable to live with the pace. Building on that promise, Hunstman Son overcame a blip at Quakerstown to win for the second time in three starts at Ballindenisk. This son of Millenary stays very well and a future as a staying chaser looks certainly within his capabilities.
P2P.ie Review
The Craigsteel gelding Old Salt, who represents the same stable that produced Roadie Joe to win a Lingstown maiden before winning a Grade 2 for Evan Williams, posted a career best on his third career outing at Lisronagh when only beaten by little more than 3 lengths on Good to Firm ground and the quick surface appears to be the key to him having gotten stuck in the mud on debut at Monksgrange in late March. That Lisronagh maiden appeared to be a competitive contest and as a result great confidence can be taken from this and he should be able to develop into a track winner horse on Spring / Summer ground.
P2P.ie Review
Ballyknock Cloud has not been beaten far in his latest two starts having gained plenty of experience prior to that in a number of smart contests. Having finished fifth just 15 lengths behind the very impressive Carter McKay at Ballynoe in Heavy ground, the son of Cloudings showed his versatility in terms of the ground conditions which he is capable of acting on by finishing fourth, just over 4 lengths down at Dromahane on Good ground before securing a first placed finish behind Next Level at Ballindenisk. A consistent performer, the versatility that he has shown in respect of the ground conditions that he has run on this season will allow him to be competitive right throughout the season.
