After making a very bad mistake early on the final circuit at Inch on his debut which cost him all chance, he has to be forgiven that opening non-completion, and he duly stepped-up to finish second at Grennan in quick conditions on his first completed start. Racing prominently throughout tracking the pace, the Trans Island gelding was in real contention entering the home straight before being unable to reel in the long-time leader who had stretched a clear advantage for parts of the race. Nonetheless New Dirreen was keeping-on all the way to the line, and his initial maiden success will likely not be far away.
