Spring HIT/P2P Sale 2022
Royal Juniper now a winner of 6yo+ Geldings Maiden at Broughshane, 7.5.22
P2P.ie Review: Royal Juniper is a progressive individual that has improved his finishing position in each of his three outings this season which culminated in an initial success in his latest effort. The Doyen gelding had shown promise when finishing third in an above-average older maiden in Tattersalls last month. It may have only featured seven horses but Royal Juniper has already become the second maiden winner to emerge from it when opening his account at Broughshane. Here he made much of the running, jumping well in the process and he battled gamely to repel all challengers from the front including the runner-up who was a €43,000 store purchase.
P2P.ie Review: This son of Doyen made all the running to score at Punchestown in a time nine seconds faster than average. He went a nice pace early before steadying a little before the final circuit. Once he increased the tempo over the final mile his rivals began to tire one by one. He is a fine scopey individual who has now opened his account around a top course and looks set for further victories.
P2P.ie Review: This son of Arcadio was a fine second last Saturday at Punchestown behind Captains Road. He had been showing snippets of form this season and the consolidation of that experience seems to have come together for him as he posted this fine effort. He is clearly well up to winning based on this evidence and having shown such a positive step forward is now capable of continuing that progression with the confidence he will have gained here. A good time to acquire this fellow as he takes the step forward to opening his account in the near future it would appear.
P2P.ie Review: A fine second on his debut at Dromahane in early April to the exciting Castleward. He is an own brother to a Challow hurdle runner-up in West Balboa and looks set to show considerable improvement from this outing. He came from a little off the pace and stayed in very nicely indeed in the closing stages to go into any good judges notebook. Being by Yeats out of a Flemensfirth mare and having had such an encouraging introduction he looks tailor made to progress into a useful sort.
The 4th horse from his win at Corbridge has won by an impressive 10 lengths since.
Half brother to winning Irish pointer Loop Head who recently sold for £80,000 and half brother to winning hurdler and chaser Theatre Mill. Was the likely winner on his second start at Sheriff Hutton until making a terrible mistake at the last where the saddle slipped and finished second where the winner has since won easily twice since. Won his Maiden next time at Corbridge where he led over the last and stayed on strongly through the line to win, the second was a close runner up to an impressive subsequent winner Macavity. The dam was a bumper winner in Ireland who was sister to Galway Hurdle winner Cloone River. He is very straightforward and will improve further and looks to have a bright future.
P2P.ie Review: Coilrock put his experience to good use at Fairyhouse last month when coming out on top in a 16-runner unplaced maiden. Despite making a mistake around the midway point, he made good progress to hit the front from the third-last fence, from where he never looked like being headed. Although plenty of horses tried to get on terms with him, none were able to do so as he won going away, whilst also looking to be value for the winning margin of five lengths. Notably, the form of the race has already been boosted with Bushmans Pass, who finished over nine lengths behind him, coming out and winning a Tipperary point-to-point bumper on his very next start.
P2P.ie Review: Notkeepinyagoing heads to the sales off the back of a 45-length maiden victory at Oldcastle which was recorded on just her third career start. The Califet mare, who is out of a track winning Milan mare, had offered promise at the same venue on the opening day of the season when beaten just 11 lengths. Having unshipped early inside the final mile at Ballycrystal, she showed the benefit of her winter break by immediately stepping-up to open her account. Here she dominated in the soft ground, and could easily have been called the winner once swiftly putting the race to bed on the climb to the home straight to register this wide-margin success.?
P2P.ie Review: A most encouraging debut by this daughter of Walk In The Park when she finished a close third on debut at Ballyknock. This was a competitively fought affair and she had to hold her line on the run to the second last fence given the number of mares still in contention and she was brave and tough enough to take the brave line towards the final two fences. She hit the line a close third behind the talented Love At Sea who was since sold for 70,000 while the runner up Goodtimecrew realised 135000 so the market has already pinpointed this as a maiden of the highest level.
P2P.ie Review: A recent winner of his maiden at Ballyknock when sharing the spoils with Hipop. He had been building valuable experience before this success and had shown hints of real promise when fifth to Transprint at Damma House in November. Stepping up to score on his latest outing points to him having matured into a now ready made campaigner to carve a career under rules from this point. He is out of a winning mare for further encouragement.
P2P.ie Review: This talented daughter of Shirocco won on her second start when coming home in front at Ballycrystal and seeing off a determined challenge from Some Woman who has won and been placed on multiple occasions since to provide real depth and confidence in this form. She has since found her feet at winners level and finished second on her most recent start in a Loughanmore mares winners contest behind the vastly more experienced Alice O Byrne. More importantly the third placed Presenting Ana in this contest had been second in an Open on her previous run suggesting this was a very creditable effort. A mare who can be expected to enjoy many winning opportunities it would seem.
P2P.ie Review: A nicely bred daughter of Westerner who has shown likeable improvement with each and every outing. Having fallen on debut she was given a confidence booster at Moig South before showing herself most capable at Monksgrange when third to Dime Store Cowgirl and beaten just over two lengths. The runner up in that contest has won since confirming it to be a very smart maiden on a top course. Furthermore betting patterns show that this mare clearly works well at home as there was plenty of support for her on her most recent outings. This mare then went to Loughanmore where she was a most impressive twelve lengths victor. Having seen a steady early pace in this race she needed to show a lot of speed in the second half of the race and this is where she completely outclassed her rivals suggesting she can drop right back in trip and remain a very potent force.
Finished 2nd in Winner Of Two PTP at Dawstown, 2.5.22
2P.ie Review: Having gained valuable experience in a bumper last July this son of Imperial Monarch won on is points debut at Comea when holding off a determined challenge of Hows Trix. He battled well on that occasion and stayed on tenaciously to see off his challengers but went on to further enhance his CV at Dawstown. He made his debut effort at winners level a very creditable one when finishing a fine second to Golden Bald when only beaten by half a length. He quickened smartly out of the back straight and looked a winner at the last but a slightly slower jump here saw the second placed Golden Bald gain a renewed effort and land his head in front on the line. This fellow had clearly proven at this point his ability to tackle better company and prove more than competitive and he has plenty of winning days ahead of him it would seem.
P2P.ie Review: A versatile sort who has run four times this season from October to April and encountered various ground conditions along the way. He has been able to hold his form on each test that he has been faced which has included left and right hand courses also. Having been beaten just six lengths in a four year old maiden on debut in October and eight lengths in a five year old maiden in April this fellow looks a sure bet to provide entertainment and remain sound for an entire season. He seems the sort that would not have to be carefully placed but one which would produce his best at each and every ask and always remain competitive with winning days sure to be just around the corner.
Finished 2nd in 5yo Geldings Maiden PTP at Dawstown on 2 May 2022
P2P.ie Review: A tough and consistent sort who has run in November, April and May and shown placed form on each occasion. He was a fair third at Kildorrery in a four year old maiden in November behind Lookaway who is now a very highly regarded dual bumper winner who won a Grade 2 bumper at Aintree for Neil King. He was then fourth at Dromahane before being a very close second at Dawstown on his latest outing. He was only beaten half a length on that occasion and it would be difficult to understate the value of the experience this fellow has gained this season. He has held his own in now proven graded company and turned up to produce a performance each time whilst still retaining a maiden tag which one would have to imagine is a very temporary tag in this instance.
P2P.ie Review: A Portrush maiden winner who had been fifth twice before this success. His first run was fifth in a point to point bumper at Wexford in March of last year before then finishing in the same position in a very competitive Kirkistown maiden in November. His March success at Portush had to be earned as he faced a strong challenge from Roar Of Approval all the way to the line. He showed his attitude to be of the highest calibre here and came out on the right side of a judges call. He then went to Loughanmore where he finished a creditable fourth on his winners level debut and is sure to build on this to enjoy further success.
P2P.ie Review: A winner in waiting it would appear as this son of Kayf Tara who is out of a Presenting mare has done a lot to showcase his winning credentials. He was a close second at Castletown in early April before looking arguably set for success at Loughanmore and exiting at the last. Having now shown form on both of his most recent starts and furthermore leading at the last on his latest outing he looks one set to open his account at the very next available opportunity it would seem.
P2P.ie Review: A most progressive son of Presenting who began to show first signs of real progression when fourth in a top notch Tattersalls maiden behind Sam Magee. That winner has since been sold for 80,000 to confirm the level of depth believed to have been in this maiden. On his most recent outing this fellow was a very close second at Fairyhouse and was clearly doing his best work late as he stayed on strongly behind Flashy Boy. He appears to have gained valuable experience and finds himself very competitive suggesting winning form is nearby.
P2P.ie Review: Having gained valuable experience since his debut at Punchestown in May 21 this fellow stepped forward to win at Oldcastle on his most recent outing. There were three with chances at the last but this fellow stayed on strongest when winning by three lengths drawing nicely clear on the short run in. This confidence boosting success should well lay the foundation for him to step up into winners company and continue to enjoy success in the future.
P2P.ie Review: Out of a mare who won a bumper and a maiden hurdle this mare looks capable of adding further success to this page. She ran notably well on debut at Monksgrange but had the misfortune to run into one of the highest rated four-year-old fillies of the season so far in Mel Monroe who was devastatingly impressive. She was the only one of the rivals who chased the eventual winner with any purpose out of the back straight which may well have proved a pitfall for a lesser mare but this mare still managed to hold her position in second and came home a long way ahead of the remaining runners. She will be well capable of providing plenty of entertainment on the track in time to come.
P2P.ie Review: Out of a sister to Straw Bear this son of Norse Dancer was a very promising third on debut at Rathcannon. He is fine individual with plenty of scope and has done well to show such promising form so early in his career. It can only be expected that he will mature over the summer. Even though his second run did not match the promise of the debut effort the summer will almost certainly consolidate his debut season and bring out the best in him for the future.
P2P.ie Review: A striking grey who was fourth at Loughrea in March before backing that run up with a fine third at Stradbally on his most recent outing. In truth a mistake four out cost him notably on his latest start and but for that he could well have been very much in the mix but he has already shown himself to be more than capable of mixing it for success it seems. The time of the race he contested in Loughrea was a notable fifteen seconds faster than average confirming he can hold his own in better company also once he progresses from maiden company.
P2P.ie Review: This debutante son of Davidoff produced a performance which needs to be viewed to be appreciated. He was in a good position going to the third last where he slightly lost his placed and race on the outside of his rivals to the second last finding himself out of position back in fifth jumping the second last. From there the response was simply exceptional. He powered down the hill to the last passing all bar the winner and closing all the way to the line. He can be considered somewhat unlucky but this performance will have provided confidence to all purchasers as to the level of ability this fellow holds. He is notably well bred and a brother to four winners already including the Grade 2 proven Chartreux suggesting this performance is one which indicates his ability to repeat this effort over and over again as he matures.
P2P.ie Review: A nicely bred sort who is by the great Milan and out of a Getaway mare who is a sister to Final Nudge. He ran notably well on debut when ridden close to the pace at all times and was ultimately a fine third less than ten lengths off the winner around Monksgrange which is a fine test of any debutante. Such a promising debut effort couple with a smart pedigree and a summer break could see this fellow emerge as a serious improver next season.
P2P.ie Review: A tough and consistent dual winner who indicated talent on his debut in a point to point bumper on his debut in March of 2021 when he was beaten less than ten lengths on his Punchestown debut. He has since finished fourth to An Tobar who many would pinpoint as the standout five year old winner of the season and this fellow went on to win just two weeks later at Knockanard. Since then he has remained consistent and a second on his winners debut at Liscarroll was followed up by a fine victory at Oldcastle where he won by an impressive ten lengths. He is a brother to a Grade 2 bumper winner in Darling Daughter and has the scope to progress to better things so he is ticking many boxes it would appear.
P2P.ie Review: A daughter of the high flying Jet Away this filly won her maiden at Curraghmore following two educational efforts which were most valuable to her development. It was a fine effort in a very respectable time and the runner up was a Walk In The Park debutante out of a Flemensfirth mare with the third having previous placed form to provide further confidence. This seems the sort of mare who can continue this progression and step upwards through the ranks.
P2P.ie Review: This five year old son of Jet Away has run three times and finished in the first four each time. He was third on debut at Lisronagh behind Ferns Lock who was since sold for 60,000 before he then went to Lingstown and finished fourth. It is always encouraging to see a horse progress throughout a season and therefore to see this fellows last run being notably his best augers well for the future. At Oldcastle in April he was beaten by De Legislator by just two lengths and signalled that his maiden win is surely around the corner.
P2P.ie Review: A steadily improving sort who has run five times and completed with credit on each occasion. Such is his consistency that he has been competitive each time and the benefit of those early outings saw him take a notable step forward at Dawstown most recently. He was third on that occasion and beaten just over a length confirming that he is more than capable for competing for maiden glory. The winner had been second on his previous outing so there is every reason to believe that this maiden was one worth respecting and that this fellow has now proven the level required to enjoy success.
PT Review: This graduate of Goffs December NH Foal Sale has run twice in maiden point-to-points and been placed each time. First time out when lining up in a seven-runner field over two and a half miles at Mollington he bumped into a smart pair of four-year-olds, but ran with promise to finish third. The winner of that race, Byorderofthcourt, was subsequently sold for £120,000 to Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls. Next time out this horse was sent off favourite for a three-mile maiden race at Llwyn Ddu in South Wales, but had to settle for third again behind two older rivals. Still young and progressive, he is unlikely to be long in getting off the mark and he is not short of pedigree. His dam is a daughter of high-class racemare Kates Charm and from the family of Sky Pirate, winner of Cheltenham’s Grand Annual Chase.
PTP Review: This once-raced four-year-old shaped with real promise on debut when second of eight in a two-mile point-to-point bumper at Bitterley in Shropshire last month. He led just after two furlongs out and was only collared inside the final furlong by a year-older mare who was in receipt of 1lb. Both the winner and third-placed horses had the benefit of a run in which they had each finished second. On the evidence of that run this horse, a foal graduate of Goffs December NH Sale, is a winner-in-waiting. His dam won a bumper and she comes from the family of the high class hurdler/chaser Colonel Braxton.
P2P.ie Review: A smashing mare who is by Sholokhov and out of a Bob Back mare suggesting her very promising debut is only a taster of what is to come. She is a sister to the highly rated Storm Home and he too began his career in points so the journey she has begun is proven for the family. She was a very close third on debut at Fairyhouse when beaten a little over a length.
P2P.ie Review: By Flemensfirth out of a Presenting mare will make this fellow sought after by any judge of a NH pedigree. He is a fine individual who has the depth of pedigree to progress to a notable level within the game. He also comes from one of the finest producers of NH stock in Loughanmore. He finished a fine second on debut at Fairyhouse to the more experienced Adieulevieux Enki and showed himself a horse with notable potential on the back of this outing as he was staying on nicely to the final fence before being left in second following a few late exits. A promising sort sure to improve notably for this debut run.
P2P.ie Review: Having made a most encouraging and indeed eye-catching debut at Ballynoe where he finished fifth behind Iks Man this son of Jet Away then went to Quakerstown where he ran out a three length winner on his second ever career start. With a somewhat steady early pace speed was required in this contest as once the pace increased it did so notably and this fellow managed that requirement with ease and that suggests that whilst his stamina is proven his ability to drop back in trip can confidently be expected to produce rewards also.
P2P.ie Review: A competitive maiden who has twice filled the runner up spot and also had fourth and fifth placings in the most competitive four and five year old division. In October and November he showed promise when twice beaten less than fifteen lengths in four year old maidens. He continued to progress and was second at both Nenagh and Castletown in March and April respectively. A most uncharacteristic error at Monksgrange saw him come down at the last when he would almost certainly finished second for the third successive time. A tough and consistent performer he will be one to enjoy for many seasons to come. With his dam having won four times on the level he will also be very effective over shorter trips.
P2P.ie Review: This daughter of Telescope ran a cracker on debut at Loughanmore when finishing a close third. The winner has already been sold for 85k confirming that this was a very highly regarded maiden and this mare was merely four lengths adrift. For much of the final circuit this was the mare who was steadily moving into a challenging position and whilst she couldn’t quite follow through for success on this occasion she proved how smoothly she can move through a maiden field. She will have little difficulty in scoring soon and progressing to a very smart level on the track in all likelihood.
PTP REVIEW: When making his debut in a ten-runner three-mile maiden point-to-point at Woodford in Gloucestershire last month this horse was described by the commentator as ‘one for the notebook’. It was hard to disagree that comment, for he moved smoothly into contention on the home turn – which was still half a mile from the finish – and then stayed on to finish third on ground which had been watered and was described as ‘dead’ or ‘tiring’ by several riders. The first two had the benefit of a recent run and came from very smart stables, and it is sure the experience will have taught this horse plenty.
P2P.ie Review: The form comment for this fellow at Lingstown where he pulled up in March notes that he was ‘eased after three out’. Clearly this run did exactly what connections desired and he then went to Lisronagh just thirteen days later and won by a clear fifteen lengths. This strong performance was quickly backed up at Taylorstown when he moved seamlessly into winners level with another victory when seeing off a determined Tamlaght Eyes by a length. He has taken his racing well and held his form and looks an ideal sort to continue racing with in Hunter Chase or summer racing as he is in top form currently. He is a brother to the black type proven Molly for Dolly also for further confidence.
P2P.ie Review: A winner on his first completed outing at Dromahane. His accelaratioon from the third to the second last fence was visually impressive and managed to place most of his rivals in trouble very quickly. The body language of the riders thereafter confirmed that this fellow was always very much in command and a horse many levels above the task at hand on that occasion. That suggests he is a horse who will find the progression to better company well within reach and he looks a very smart winner with a big future. A brother to the useful A Fine young Man his page includes top class performers such as Black Humour and Gaye Brief amongst others.
P2P.ie Review: Having only had the benefit of one previous run in a four-year-old maiden before Christmas when the stable’s horses were out of form, Hold Up La Colmine was pitched into winners company for his return four months later and he put up a bold showing by getting the better of the Simon Munir & Isaac Souede €105,000 store Coco Masterpiece, a horse that entered the race having recorded an impressive debut success a month earlier. Hold Up La Colmine however made his way to the front approaching the final fence and was always holding the odds-on favourite to comfortably defeat him by two and a half lengths.
P2P.ie Review: Zero Tolerance started his career when chasing home the subsequent £220,000 seller Au Fleuron in a point-to-point bumper at Tipperary last year, beaten just four and a half lengths. The horse that finished immediately behind him has since won a bumper and maiden hurdle, whilst the horse that was a further 16 lengths back in fifth has also won a maiden hurdle this season to give a strong indication of his ability. Zero Tolerance has since changed stables and after pulling-up on his debut over obstacles at Castlelands in March he went close at Ballyknock last month. This is a new course which strongly favoured front runners at the opening fixture and Zero Tolerance stayed-on very strongly to run down the long-time leader in the closing stages, to such an extent that he was only denied by a neck at the lin. That horse has since been purchased by Philip Hobbs for £60,000 and it would seem that Zero Tolerance too is set for a profitable career on the track now.
P2P.ie Review: Having finished a promising fifth, beaten just nine lengths on his debut in soft ground at Curaghmore last month, Rattling Road was turned out just seven days later when he impressively opened his account by a wide margin on better ground. Patiently ridden, the Arctic Cosmos gelding showed a notable change of gears around the home bend to make a decisive move to the front which swiftly found most of his rivals flat footed as he kicked clear. He more than had the measure of the favourite, the twice previously placed Heaven Smart, when that rival exited at the last to add depth to the performance.
PTP Review: A convincing win by this youngster in a point-to-point bumper at Aintree on Friday backed up his victories in point-to-points over two and a half and three miles.
After a quiet debut run in March when finishing third he showed there was plenty more in the locker a month later by landing a maiden point-to-point over two and a half miles at Sheriff Hutton in Yorkshire. The runner-up came from a leading yard and was subsequently second next time out to another potentially useful rival. Meanwhile this horse went on to contest a restricted (winners of one) race at Corbridge in Northumberland, and once again jumped well and showed a willingness to battle when pulling clear of the favourite. Upsides with that rival at the penultimate fence, he produced a smart leap at the final jump which sealed the issue. He then showed he had enough toe to win a 2m1f Flat race with success in the Aintree bumper, for which ten went to post. He won by two and a half lengths and was going further clear at the finish. Out of a talented racemare who won three races at up to Gr.2 level and more than A$500,000 in Australia, he is a half-brother to Godolphin's high-class performer Walton Street, who won last year's Gr.1 Canadian International. Adding a very rare if not unique touch, he has a six-race winning half-brother down under who also goes by the name of Macavity.
P2P.ie Review: Anti Bridgie came close to making a winning debut when she was introduced at Monksgrange last month. The Doyen mare did come under pressure racing into the home straight however she stayed on particularly strongly and never gave up. Coming through to take the second spot at the final fence she was closing on the winner to the line as the pair pulled further pulled eight lengths clear of the remainder which included the fourth who has won her maiden on her very next start. Her narrow conqueror has since been sold for €110,000 at the Goffs Punchestown Sale, and Anti Bridgie should have little difficulty opening her own account in the near future.
P2P.ie Review: The progressive Lune De La Mer is a Sea Moon gelding that has continued to improve in each of his three starts throughout the spring term, as having pulled-up at Ballyvodock in January, he finished seventh in a big-field Lisronagh maiden on his first completed run. That was followed by a first placed result on his latest outing in Dromahane when he overcame two mistakes in the final half-mile, including an error at the last which conceivably cost him the runners-up spot behind a winner who has since been sold for €120,000 at the Goffs Punchestown Sale. The horse that finished some four lengths behind him in fourth has since advertised the form when only narrowly denied in Dawstown on his very next start and it likely will not be long until Lune De La Mer himself makes his own breakthrough.
P2P.ie Review: Free Parking showed the benefit of his Dromahane debut when re-appearing three weeks later at Monksgrange and filling the runners-up spot on his first completed start. The Walk In The Park gelding has a notable staying pedigree, with his dam Liberty Counsel the 2013 Irish Grand National winner. Coming from off the pace, having been sitting in eighth spot at the rear of the group entering the home straight, he strongly kept to his task, and although the eventual winner could not be reeled in having been able to steal first run on him, he overcame being hampered at the last to take the second spot from a previous runner-up to suggest that he is close to maiden victory.
P2P.ie Review: This son of Mount Nelson ran notably well on debut and but for racing a little green could well have won. He lead over the second last and seemed to have the ability to put his stamp on the maiden but having got to the front showed understandable signs of greenness and was just headed going to the last where he exited. He had clearly done enough at this stage to underline his undoubted ability and this run should well place him in a strong position to step up and improve next time for this invaluable experience. His grandam was the notably talented Shuil Ar Aghaidh suggesting this is a page capable of producing something well above average.
P2P.ie Review: Noplacetobe stepped-up from her debut in a competitive Belclare maiden in March by making all of the running at Quakerstown a month later. The challenging conditions at the County Clare venue did not make life simple for the daughter of Kalanisi, however she was unperturbed by the heavy rain as she travelled well throughout, jumping from fence to fence to record a five-length success over a previously placed an more experienced rival. The third-placed horse has already advertised the form by finishing a close second in a big-field Bartlemy maiden in recent weeks and there is likely more to come from this progressive individual.
P2P.ie Review: Imperial Alex has been knocking on the door for the past couple of months and could conceivably have opened his account by now having put up a number of notable efforts in defeat, often in big field contests including at Castlelands in March when just five lengths behind Stellar Story who was subsequently bought by Gordon Elliott for £310,000. Since that run this Imperial Monarch gelding has twice finished placed whilst he was likely bound for a place finish when falling late-on at Dromahane too. The experience that he has picked-up this season will also stand to him on the move up the ranks after he does gain a deserved maiden victory.
P2P.ie Review: Jack Burke opened his account in a Rathcannon match race back in April where his one and only rival had been purchased as a store for €100,000 being out of a half-sister to City Island. That horse sent off as the 1/5 favourite, however he proved to be no match for Jack Burke as he made most of the running and put in the better jump at the penultimate fence from where he was able to quicken clear to record a three and a half length success. Good ground seems to bring out the best in him and he can now progress on from that initial victory.
P2P.ie Review: The progressive Son Of Aliciaslady showed that he was close to achieving a maiden success when stepping up to finish third behind the track-placed An Droichead Gorm at Monksgrange in March and he returned to that venue a month later to open his account by six lengths. He was aided somewhat when Who’s Houdini came down at the final fence, but it was a maiden victory that would have come his way at some point nonetheless in a win which saw him comfortably defeat a previously-placed rival.
P2P.ie Review: Inis Oir certainly benefitted from a near four-month break from his Boulta debut as he returned a much improved performer to finish a close second at Loughanmore on Easter Saturday. This had the look of a competitive race and Derek O’Connor produced the Ocovango gelding at the final fence where he put in a good jump to land in second. From there he was closing on the winner Yeah Man who has since been purchased by Gavin Cromwell for €95,000 at the Goffs Punchestown Sale, to suggest that he too will add a maiden success to his name in the near future before developing into a winning track performer.
P2P.ie Review: This €30,000 Goffs Land Rover Sale purchase is a sibling of a whole host of track winners including her half-brother the Grade 1 winner Lovcen, and it will likely not be long until she too is a winner, having looked particularly unfortunate not to have opened her account at Fairyhouse last month. The Valirann would certainly have been called the likely winning swinging into the home straight as she led her rivals to the final obstacle, only to steady into the fence and get outjumped by the eventual winner. The short run-in counted against her as she was rallying to the line and only went down by a neck to a horse who was subsequently bought by Highflyer Bloodstock for €60,000 at the recent Goffs Punchestown Sale. Her compensation will likely be swiftly attained.
P2P.ie Review: A very encouraging debut by this son of Malins who finished second at Oldcastle on debut to the exciting Fortunate Soldier who has since sold for e200,000. This youngster was staying best of the rest from the home turn and this showed a real positive attitude and approach from him which will stand to him as his career progresses. His page is packed with winners and his dam is a sister to an extraordinary thirteen winners which suggests he should be able to follow in the footsteps of those multiple high quality winners which are already dotted all over this pedigree.
P2P.ie Review: Ol’River Shine is a half-sister to the now four-time track winner Palmers Hill who has achieved a top track rating of 142 over fences, and she made her debut when finishing third at Tattersalls last month. She was part of a group of six horses that broke clear along the back straight on the good ground, and she produced a number of good jumps to leave her very much in contention rounding the bend for home. Gamely she found plenty for pressure on the climb to the last to ensure that she was only defeated by little over five and a half lengths to a more experienced mare who was subsequently sold for €95,000 at the Goffs Punchestown Sale. A maiden win has to be expected from her now following that promising initial effort.
PTP Review: The form of this horse’s debut run – when third of 14 runners in a three-mile maiden at Alnwick in Northumberland – worked out well. The winner landed a restricted race (winners of one) next time out, while the runner-up, who beat this horse by one length, won another 14-runner maiden race. It should be added that had this horse not lost ground when fluffing the penultimate fence he would probably have taken second prize. On his next start he went to Kimble in Buckinghamshire and split two older horses when leading until two out and eventually finishing runner-up. With those two fine efforts under his belt he is ready to go on and is a good-sized youngster who, having gained from the education he has received at the yard of Britain’s leading point-to-point trainer, is very likely to improve with age.
P2P.ie Review: Moodofthemoment was sent off as one of the leading contenders for a four-year-old maiden on his debut in the autumn when Denis Murphy’s runners were out of form, and following two subsequent efforts he delivered a performance that connections undoubtedly had been expected in Moira when winning by a distance at Stowlin at the beginning of the month. In a change in tactics to his Ballynoe effort before it, the Shantou gelding was immediately sent to the front as positive tactics saw him make all of the running. He jumped from fence to fence and got into a rhythm that tested his rivals, with four of them coming to grief over the course of the race, and whilst left clear when his closest danger did exit at the second-last fence, he was certainly not going to go down without a fight and this is a decent race to assess him on.
P2P.ie Review: The third-place finish of The Wounded Knee in an unplaced maiden at Lisronagh in March certainly seemed to have the desired effect of bringing him forward, as he showed notable improvement when placing for the second time in his career at Dromahane at the beginning of the month. He came from off the pace under Derek O’Connor on this occasion and was finishing out his race to particularly good effect to ultimately finish just under three lengths behind the winner which would suggest that he is a maiden winner in waiting, particularly if continuing to improve in the same vein as he has been showing of late.
TRAINER NOTE: friendless in the betting ahead of this introduction, showed a fine attitude under pressure to wrestle back the advantage in the dying strides and eclipse the well backed favourite. Out of a mare that was placed in points, he's entitled to stay a good bit further than this given the granddam was a prolific winner between 2m5f-3m2f in hurdles and chases. He stands as a lovely big strapping horse.
P2P.ie Review: Stepped up from an eye-catching debut to share the spoils at Dromahane in an auction maiden with Marty McFly. He had to battle to hold his share of the lead from the second last and was pressed strongly all the way to the line by the tenacious co victor. His dam is a sister to the high class six times winning Mariah Rollins and this looks a very tough proposition to secure plenty of success in the future.
P2P.ie Review: Out of a winning Flemensfirth mare, Loughrask Poet encountered extremely challenging conditions on his debut in Quakerstown, a race which year-after-year proves to be a contest to following having been won by none other than Champagne Fever, Bacardys, Next Destination, Brewin’upastorm and The Big Breakaway amongst others. He gamely kept on inside the final half-mile to finish third to the subsequent Willie Mullins purchase Forverwalking at last month’s Goffs Punchestown Sale. Loughrask Poet himself reappeared at Bartlemy on May 8th, when he once again came from off the pace in a race which produced an impressive winner. These two efforts lay solid foundations for his future career where it should be noted he has contested two notable four-year-old maidens.
P2P.ie Review: A very smart winner of her maiden at Dromahane on debut. Having made the journey to Dromahane from her Northern Ireland base she took on many locally trained mares and came out on top by a narrow margin having to show good battling qualities to score. She is out of a sister to the high class Go Native suggesting she will have a lot of speed when dropped back in trip but her stamina and tenacity is already assured it seems. She could be one to maximise the black type mares opportunities which exist currently.
P2P.ie Review: The four-year-old maiden at Broughshane has developed a decent roll of honour since it’s relatively recent introduction with previous editions having been won by the likes of Born Survivor, Calino D’Airy, and Fakir D’Alene. The 2022 renewal was certainly not lacking in competitiveness with a blanket covering ten horses jumping the third-last fence. In behind them and with a wall of nine horses to pass was the newcomer Kinbara. He caught the eye making what looked to be particularly easy progress on the climb to the penultimate obstacle to cut through the field, despite steadying into the final fence, which he was entitled to do on debut, he continued his relentless progression up the run-in to finish best of all and win going away by half-a-length. Given how strongly he hit the line, he would also have to be considered value for that winning margin.
P2P.ie Review: A wide margin winner of a Largy maiden on his most recent start. He had shown a lot of promise when beaten less than five lengths on his previous outing and then completely outclassed his rivals at Largy. Not only did he win by seventeen lengths but he clocked a time which was ten seconds faster than the average on the day at his ease. He is related to plenty of winners on the level so should well be very effective when dropping back in trip also.
P2P.ie Review: Keep On Digging followed in the footsteps of his dam Strange Talk by winning a point-to-point for Robert Tyner, with his success coming at the first time of asking in a Dawstown adjacent maiden. The last edition of this race had been won by Super Citizen who has since gone on to win twice at Leopardstown, and Keep On Digging justified his odds-on favourites tag in the 2022 edition with particular ease. Jumping well from the front, his supporters never had a moments worry as he went on to defeat a twice previously placed rival by a very comfortable six lengths. His excellent fencing will undoubtedly be an asset when switching to the track.
P2P.ie Review: Ballystone is a well-bred son of Shirocco being out of a multiple track winning King’s Theatre mare that has already produced the four-time Grade 2 winner Wholestone. The €30,000 that connections paid to secure him as a foal look to have been well spent on the evidence of his debut where he was only denied an open success in a Broughshane four-year-old maiden that has been won by subsequent 140-rated chasers Born Survivor, Calino D’Airy, and Fakir D’Alene in recent years. It was hotly contested this year with upwards of ten horses holding definite chances jumping the third-last fence ensuring finishing speed was a definite plus. He caught the eye travelling powerfully into the race by coming through to lead approaching the last. He put down at this obstacle which cruelly looks to have cost him victory as he was headed on the short run-in to be denied by a head. He would have to be expected to easily make amends next time.
P2P.ie Review: As is to be expected coming from John Nallen’s Minella academy which has been responsible for Gold Cup winner Minella Indo and Grand National hero Minella Times, Minella Diamond is a well-bred individual, one that cost his connections €38,000 last year at the store sales being out of a six-time winning Generous mare. The Beat Hollow gelding travelled easily throughout his Stowlin debut before looming alongside the eventual winner, a €50,000 store purchase, as he was the only horse able to challenge that rival. A slower leap at the final fence did end that challenge, but he was still only beaten by five lengths in second with the pair pulling no less than 11 lengths clear of their rivals to suggest they are an above-average pair.?
P2P.ie Review: A very smart winner of his maiden on debut at Punchestown where he clocked a time ten seconds faster than average. He had finished fourth on debut at Monksgrange before stepping up to this fine winning effort. When the runner up was produced with a well-timed challenge it was taking the reserves this fellow found to race into a five length success at the line. This sort of form and tenacity points to him being one who will provide endless entertainment and enjoyment throughout his career. He has a lot to offer and with plenty of flat winners on his page he should also be versatile in terms of trip which will add to the winning opportunities he will likely enjoy.
P2P.ie Review: Richhill comes to the market with a progressive profile that can be so typical of horses from this stable having improved in each of his three outings to date, a run which culminated in the £35,000 Goffs UK January Sale yearling purchase, enjoying a maiden victory at Broughshane earlier this month. Having been to the fore throughout, the Presenting gelding faced a stiff challenge from Gordon Elliott’s €40,000 Goffs Land Rover Sale purchase Zettabyte, the well-back favourite, however it was a challenge that he overcame in gutsy fashion to come out on top and it surely now sets him up for a track career where the improvement should continue.
P2P.ie Review: A Law Of Her Own has a pedigree to suggest that she will not be short of speed. The daughter of Lawman is out of a Dubawi mare that won over seven furlongs and has already produced the three-time flat winner Plume D’outarde. A Law Of Her Own, however is clearly not short of staying ability as she made the perfect start to her racing career by winning a three-mile point-to-point at the very first attempt. Making way to the front on the climb away from the third-last fence, she was able to maintain that advantage all the way to the line on a track with a notable uphill finish to defeat more experienced rivals in the process including the previously-placed runner-up. This all points to a versatile performer for the future.
P2P.ie Review: Kym Eyre matched her Saddler’s Hall dam by also making a winning start to her career in the point-to-point fields, with her maiden success coming in impressive fashion at Kildorrery in February. Here she overcame testing conditions to win the big-field maiden by no less than nine lengths. That was a big performance and it saw her sent off as the favourite for the 2022 edition of the prestigious GAIN Mares Final a month later. This was a big task as the history books suggest that this race is typically won by more experienced types, as you have to go back to 1993 to find the last horse to win the Final on the back of a debut success. Although it came in quicker conditions, she still put up a fine effort in defeat when beaten just over six lengths before she then went on to finish third in a decent renewal of the mares point-to-point bumper at Tipperary earlier this month suggesting that she should have little problem enjoying future track success.
P2P.ie Review: A very promising son of Sea Moon who finished second on debut at Dawstown when two lengths adrift of the well regarded Slade Steel. This race was run in a time six seconds faster than the average on the day and this provides plenty of encouragement. He battled and quickened to lead for a time on the run to the home straight and while headed he battled back for another challenge at the last and an awkward jump here may have been his undoing. He has proven his ability however and looks a smart addition to the catalogue.
P2P.ie Review: The debut winner of the mares maiden at Dawstown this daughter of Kayf Tara is a sister two winners and out of a sister to Our Ben and Scavenger on what is a very strong page. She was battling gamely when taking her chance in the closing stages and this attitude is sure to stand to her as she carves out further success in her career. She must be complimented for winning on debut when it is considered that the second, third and fourth all had previous experience.
P2P.ie Review: A smart mare who is out of a seven times winning mare herself and furthermore a sister to a seven times winner so bred to be successful. She posted a fine debut at Dromahane when going down by a very narrow margin to Rosea in a competitive ten runner affair. The winning margin of a neck suggests there is little between the winner and this mare and both can be considered smart mares for the future and they could well lock horns at a higher level as their career paths take them to the next level of high quality mares races.
P2P.ie Review: Shared the honours in a Dromahane auction maiden on his second outing with Pride Of Erin. This race was run in a decent time. He was behind a number of horses on the turn for home but easily moved into a challenging position after the third last and was sharing the lead two out. He battled well under strong pressure to share the spoils at the line and looks an exciting sort. His family includes a host of talented sort such as Whatuthink, Glens Music and Glens Melody.
PTP Review: Following an introduction to point-to-pointing when pulling up at Loughanmore in County Antrim, this four-year-old was shipped from Harley Dunne’s stable to Chris Barber in Dorset. Making his British debut in an eight-runner, three-mile maiden race at Holnicote in Somerset he went on at half-way and led his rivals into the home straight. A more experienced five-year-old then nipped up his inner, led to the final fence and went three lengths clear, but this horse rallied gamely and clawed the deficit back to a length at the line. Six lengths behind was an older mare who had finished a good third on her previous start. It was a fine effort by this horse considering he had shipped from Ireland and only been with his current trainer for just over two weeks, and he is another who can pay his way in time.
P2P.ie Review: Salacia’s Storm is out of a Shernazar mare who won her maiden at Kirkistown, and she appeared in the same silks when making her debut behind the talented looking Shecouldbeanything on a competitive card at Loughanmore on Easter Monday. She showed the benefit for that run when making the frame on just her second start which came at Largy late last month. Here she gamely stayed-on to chase the much more experienced and previously placed winner all the way to the line. That performance is one that would leave her close to future maiden success in the sphere.
P2P.ie Review: Take No Chances showed the benefit of her debut in a competitive Loughanmore race on Easter Monday when only beaten by four and three quarter lengths by the subsequent £85,000 seller Largy Force, by getting her head in front on her very next start at Stowlin. The good-looking Milan mare was produced after the penultimate fence by Harley Dunne before fending off the persistent challenge of a €37,000 store in second in likeable style, clocking a time that 11 seconds quicker than the geldings equivalent run just 30 minutes later.
P2P.ie Review: Tommy Cullen is a progressive son of Hillstar who has shown likeable improvement particularly since being ridden close to the pace in the two runs since his Lisronagh debut. At Taylorstown last month he certainly did not have the run off the race having lost his challenging position when running off the home bend which looked particularly costly. He then made an error at the final fence when likely set to finish in the placings, something he made sure of at Broughshane earlier in the month. This is a race which has been won by subsequent 140-rated chasers Born Survivor, Calino D’Airy, and Fakir D’Alene in three of its previous five renewals. He tried to make all of the running in the 2022 edition of the race, overcoming a serious error four-out before showing a game attitude on the climb up the straight to finish a close third in a time eight seconds quicker than the day’s average. His maiden success is surely just around the corner.
PTP Review: From the stable of Britain's champion point-to-point trainer, this horse lived up to his name when sent to Sandon in Staffordshire to make his racing debut. Having lined up in a two-mile point-to-point Flat race he was allowed to follow his rivals for a circuit, but as they rounded the final bend he was pushed clear, opened up a big gap in the home straight despite running a little green on the undulating surface, and won with plenty in hand by 12 lengths. He was then made favourite for Friday’s point-to-point bumper at Aintree, but finished unplaced. A son of the upwardly mobile stallion Diamond Boy, Good Boy is a half-brother to the Listed bumper winner and useful hurdler/chaser Eden Du Houx.
P2P.ie Review:A progressive sort who has taken a step forward with each outing. Having gained experience at Ballindenisk as a four-year-old where he was sent off favourite before exiting he then went to Dromahane where he had a confidence restoring outing finishing a very encouraging fifth. That outing was put to good use at Punchestown as he moved into contention before the final fence in the manner of a horse destined to score. Ultimately the talented Lock Out had a gear too many but this fellow had shown further improvement suggesting his is still very much on an upward curve and his best days, of which there are sure to be many, are just around the corner. Being out of a dual winner and a brother to a smart dual winner adds to confidence here.
P2P.ie Review: This €40,000 purchase looked set to play a very big part in deciding the outcome of his debut five-year-old maiden at Stowlin at the beginning of the month when unlucky to come down at the second-last fence. Always to the fore, he made progress with relative ease to take a share of the lead when exiting the race, in a race which had seen these two principals already pull a considerable distance clear of their rivals, with the vastly more experienced Moodofthemoment ultimately winning by a distance. Compensation should be easily attained.
P2P.ie Review: Gunteur is a Lord Du Sud gelding that showed the benefit for the patient approach that connections have adopted with him, as having pulled-up on his debut at Lingstown before Christmas, he took a big step forward when re-appearing five months later at Dawstown. He made nice progress to come from midfield and was staying on all the way up the home straight to ultimately finish an encouraging second, beaten just three and a half lengths by a vastly more experienced rival who had previously run on the track.
P2P.ie Review: Having cost €43,000 at the 2019 Goffs Land Rover Sale even before his full-brother Vanillier had progressed into a Grade 1 Cheltenham Festival winner, Viking’s Way was always expected to develop into a smart performer, an expectation which was no more so evident than on his own debut at Ballycrystal last October when he was well supported in the market before the off to the extent of being sent off as the even-money favourite. Early mistakes proved costly and so it was only at Broughshane earlier this month that he showed what he was capable of. Coming from off the pace, he was closing on the pair in front of him when making an error at the second-last, however he regained his momentum on the uphill climb to the line to finish second just two lengths down in a definite career best.
P2P.ie Review: The Libertarian gelding Old Folk Tale looks primed to open his account in the immediate future having finished within five lengths of the winner in each of his two completed starts this season. These have come in to two races to have been viewed favourably by the market, with his Rathcannon conqueror from the autumn, The Brew Master, having been purchased since by Highflying Bloodstock for £100,000, with Gordon Elliott going to £200,000 to secure Search For Glory, the horse that beat him on his latest start in Quakerstown. He was never too far away from the pace in the testing conditions that he encountered at the County Clare venue and kept on to finish an encouraging five-length second to that subsequent sales topper.
P2P.ie Review: Having been partnered by a novice rider for her debut at Dromahane at the beginning of the month, the booking of Rob James for her re-appearance, which came just seven days later in Bartlemy was a notable factor pre-race and it certainly proved to be notable. The Westerner mare was patiently delivered in between the final two fences on the outer of the three principals. This ensured that she was presented with no walkover, and it is a test that she came through with flying colours as she swiftly came to the front after the last before pulling clear in courageous style to win going away in the manner of a horse with all the pace to make a play for a bumper in similar conditions at the outset of her track career.
P2P Review: This big young horse showed plenty of ability but clear signs of greenness when going down by a head on his only start to date in a point-to-point at Eyton in Shropshire. The narrow winner came from a leading stable and had shown he was a winner in waiting when placed in several races against useful opponents earlier this season. That experience counted over the final two fences, but the runner-up's performance suggested there is plenty of untapped potential for a future buyer. Duke Of Moravia was sold as a foal at Goffs and again as a store at the Land Rover Sale. His dam won Glorious Goodwood's Gr.3 Prestige Stakes and this horse has become her sixth winner.
P2P Review: Those who kept the faith in this horse were rewarded when he won with plenty in hand at Chaddesley Corbett in Worcestershire recently. He made his racing debut in a maiden point-to-point in March at Shelfield Park, where he led going to three out and then fell, and it was a similar story on his next start, when he was lying second and came down with two to jump. Those mishaps were forgotten when, on his third start, he put in a fault-free round to win by 18 lengths, beating into second a horse from one of Britain's top stables. Bred by a stalwart of Goffs UK sales, the late Robert Chugg and his wife Jackie, Galassian is a half-brother to the tough campaigner Oksana out of a mare who was placed in France. Her dam was a full-sister to the top-class Jump sire Mansonnien.
P2P.ie Review: Queens Fortune was pitched in against geldings for her debut in a four-year-old auction maiden at Dromahane at the beginning of the month where she acquitted herself well when beaten by just eight lengths in third. She tried to make all of the running against the ten geldings that lined-up in opposition and it was only as the penultimate fence approached that she was headed. From there, she gamely stuck to her task to hold off a more experienced rival for that final spot on the podium. Judged against the fact that she was taking on geldings, she would have to be strongly fancied to open her account from here when reverting back against her own sex.
P2P.ie Review: Had To Be Hugo came particularly close to making the perfect start to his career when narrowly denied in a competitive Dromahane maiden at the beginning of the month. Always kept wide, he found himself in seventh position rounding the bend for the home straight, but to his credit he showed a very game attitude by responding to pressure. That saw him finish strongly to such an extent that a handful of strides after the line he had made his way to the front having only been denied by a next at the post. Confidence can be taken from the fact that it was a twice previously placed rival that got the better of him, with the fourth horse, Hills Of Glory since running well at Bartlemy. He should easily make amends before progressing to the track.
P2P.ie Review Heros De Moutiers has come up against a number of talented looking individuals, including when making his debut in a strong Ballyvodock maiden back in February, and after finishing second in a Castlelands unplaced maiden in March he put the experience that he has accrued this season to good use by running out a battling winner at Dawstown at the beginning of the month. Both of the placed horses behind him had previously filled the placings which all points towards his winning performance being up to track standard.
P2P.ie Review: Old Beginnings bumped into the smart-looking Myretown on his debut at Dromahane last month, a race in which he fared best of the four newcomers in the 12-runner contest. Always positioned in the front half of the field, he moved through to take a challenging position at the third-last fence from where he kept the eventual winner honest all the way to the final fence, before that rivals experience allowed him to pull clear on the run-in. This was a very promising debut effort in a race which clocked a time nine seconds quicker than the average on the card, and it is one that would have likely seen him sent off as the favourite had he re-appeared in a maiden point subsequently.
P2P.ie Review: A return to better underfoot conditions were sure to have played a big factor in the winning display that Thomas Mor displayed at Bartlemy earlier this season. After all, his career had started on a very promising note when he finished second to the now Willie Mullins-trained Dancing City on his debut in a Borris House four-year-old maiden before Christmas. He encountered softer conditions in each of his next three starts before making the breakthrough in the manner which had been expected following that opening effort when scoring by four lengths at Bartlemy. He showed good staying qualities to pick off the three horses that had jumped the second last in front of him before pulling clear to win going away at the line. His half-brother Erne River also started off with Colin Bowe, where he also won his maiden as a five-year-old and on his third start before progressing into a now 144-rated chaser who was sent off as an 11/4 shot for the recent Grade 1 Manifesto Chase at Aintree before falling at the tenth.
P2P.ie Review: Threeunderthree is a Telescope mare that has a pedigree that many breeders will take keen notice of being out of an Accordion mare that is a full sister to The Tother One and half-sister to both Carlingford Lough and Thisthatandtother. They alone add considerable black type to her page and she has shown good toughness to run three times within the space of two months in her debut season, having been sent off as the favourite for the first of her outings when pitched in against geldings at Nenagh. That market confidence is worth noting and she travelled well throughout before she was eased when her chance was gone in the home straight, yet was still only beaten just over 13 lengths and the experience that she has picked up this term will stand to her.
P2P Review: Making his first public appearance in a two-and-a-half mile maiden point-to-point at Eyton in Shropshire this bay gelding shaped with promise when finishing third. Moving closer to the pace three out he was one of four horses in contention until tiring between the final two fences. The first two came from well-established and successful yards and the winner had the benefit of several placed efforts against useful opponents. Runner-up Duke Of Moravia is also in this catalogue. Chairman Fitz is the first foal of his unraced dam, who was a half-sister to the smart hurdler/chaser Fletchers Flyer.
Winner of Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Mares' Open National Hunt Flat Race at Newton Abbot, 11.5.22 – her only start to date
P2P.ie Review: Fortunes Hill was sent off at the top of the market for his debut in a competitive Dawstown at the beginning of the month where he came from of the pace to finish a staying-on fourth, beaten only a length and three quarters in the process. Having had to surrender previous experience to each of his 13 rivals, being the sole newcomer in the 14-strong field, the form of the race appears to stack up to scrutiny, with the three horses that finished in front of him all having entered the race with previous placed form to their names. That gives confidence that he is entitled to get even closer when he re-appears.
P2P.ie Review: A very consistent mare who was only beaten seven lengths on debut at Castletown in early April before a late April outing to Fairyhouse saw her finish a close third to the talented Lady Mendoza. Having taken her racing notably well she continued to show top form when going to Punchestown and taking a competitive fifteen runner maiden by two lengths in good style. She has now backed her form up with three fine efforts on decent courses and with form both left and right handed. She is clearly a very sound, straight forward and uncomplicated mare who is sure to continue providing entertainment and enjoyment throughout her career.
P2P.ie Review: Charlie’s Rockstar changed stables after running three times under rules for Stuart Crawford last year, and after his return run at Oldcastle last month on stable debut, he was ridden more positively a fortnight later at Largy when posting a career best. Leading the field all the way to the penultimate fence in the challenging conditions, it was only when the previously proven Gametime got by him that he was forced to settle for the runners-up spot. He may not have been able to quicken with that horse inside the closing stages, but he did keep to this task to hold the second spot by finishing ten lengths clear of his next rival, the previously placed Brownlow Leader. He can certainly get closer.
P2P.ie Review: Serious Operator was clearly expected to open his account on just his second start at Ballyvodock in January as was well-backed to such an extent that he was sent off as the odds-on favourite. He duly delivered and although it may only have been a confined maiden it is particularly notable that four of the six runners in the race have since gone on to win subsequently, with this Malinas gelding one of them as he put up a very notable performance at Dromahane in a winner-of-one contest on his return to the pointing fields. Here he defeated the favourite and previous eight-length maiden winner Ik’s Man quite decisively to suggest that he is more than up to adding to his tally in the near future.
P2P.ie Review: Brownlow Leader is a half-brother to Stephanie Frances a horse that has won no fewer than three Listed races over distances between 2m and 2m2f, and it may be that shorter distances also bring out the best in Brownlow Leader as he has shown more promise than the beaten distances of his three completed starts may suggest. At Portrush in late March, he was in a close second jumping the penultimate fence before weakening in the closing stages. He has twice finished placed now over three miles and as that Portrush effort suggested he is not without hope.
P2P.ie Review: Sir Shelby is a half-brother to the dual hurdle winner Diamond Fort who has contested two maidens to date, finishing third in an adjacent contest at Loughrea in March before again coming from off the pace to finish fourth at Dawstown earlier in the month. He was the subject of market support ahead of his latest support which suggests connections, who had booked Derek O’Connor for his debut, expected him to put up a good performance. He was just four lengths behind the seven-times placed Vermout Fougeray in that run and it would be no surprise to see him get closer.
P2P.ie Review: Coming from the same stable that produced the likes of Grade 1 performers Honeysuckle and Battleoverdoyen, Fitzburg is a horse that comes to the sales ring following his best effort to date when second in an adjacent maiden at Largy late last month. The experience that he had previously built up earlier in the campaign certainly stood to him in the deteriorating conditions as he posted an exhibition of jumping from the front. Strongly pressed throughout the final half-mile, it was only after the final fence that he was eventually forced to settle for the runners-up spot in a performance which suggests that he is certainly heading in the right direction.
PTP Review: Hailing from the family of the great Badsworth Boy and the Gr.1 Cheltenham Festival winner Fundamentalist, this five-year-old is a half-brother to the winning pointer and useful chaser Recite A Prayer who is trained by Willie Mullins. Making his racing debut in a three-mile maiden point-to-point at Chilfrome in Dorset, he beat all but one of the ten runners and was well clear of the third. The experienced winner subsequently made all to land a seven-runner restricted race (winners of one) two weeks later. A good-looking neat horse, Cherokees Prayer, will have benefited from the run and can build on that performance.
PTP Review: The benefit of a run enabled this horse to produce a sound effort when a good second over three miles in a point-to-point at Woodford in Gloucestershire last month. On his first start, when running over two and a half miles at Ston Easton in Somerset, he led to the ninth, but weakened over the final few fences and finished last of four runners, but he put in a much improved effort when upped in trip for his next start. Lining up in a ten-runner three-mile maiden race he lay handy until taking up the running heading to the final bend, but was collared on the very long home straight by a promising rival who had finished runner-up on his debut two weeks earlier and was prepared by a leading trainer of young pointers. This horse’s unraced dam comes from the well-known family of Borushka, the dam of top-class filly Behera, who became dam of high-class hurdler chaser Behrajan and his equally-talented half-sister Behkara, who was a class act on the Flat.
