Jack Teal’s Yorkshire yard is gaining a good reputation for preparing and selling young point-to-pointers and this is another fine example. Sent to Corbridge in Northumberland for his racing debut, he lined up in an 11-runner maiden race over three miles and was confidently ridden near the head of affairs. Going on with another rival he led narrowly on the home turn before the uphill home straight, and was still ahead of four rivals with two to jump. Given a tap of the whip on touching down he quickly put another five lengths between himself and his nearest pursuer and with a clean leap at the final fence he ran out an easy winner. The winning margin was 11 lengths with another five back to the third – who won next time out.
