Review: This horse was luckless on his first two starts, but gained a deserved maiden-race win at Witton Castle earlier this month. He had been brought down when making his debut at Sheriff Hutton in April, and, returning to the same track two weeks later, was hampered and unseated when two horses fell in front of him. At Witton Castle he was ridden to avoid any repetition, leading over the first four fences and remaining near the head of the nine-runner field before making a decisive move with three to jump. From that point he could be called the winner. The well-bred runner-up (by Nathaniel out of a Shamardal mare) from Mick Easterby’s stable had been placed in a previous maiden, as had the third. The race was run in a time ten seconds quicker than division two of the maiden. Feel Like De Baune is a half-brother to Rock De Baune – whose win in France was gained over no less a horse than Willie Mullin’s top-class hurdler Klassical Dream – and there are plenty of winners in France down the page. His three-year-old half-brother is entered in Goffs UK’s Doncaster Spring Store Sale (Lot 254).
