P2P.ie Review: Representing the owner-trainer connection which produced Finian’s Oscar to win his point-to-point and were also responsible for the Lingstown winner Grangeclare West that was sold for £430,000 earlier in the season, Great Ocean is from a Kapgarde mare that is proving to have an excellent strike rate with her off-spring as her first three progeny are all multiple winners and her latest runner Great Ocean looks certainly set to continue that tradition following his recent success at Fairyhouse. Having finished placed in a pair of autumn four-year-old maidens including when third to the now two-time winning hurdler Percy Warner at Umma House in October, the Great Pretender gelding did not waste any time in getting his head in front following the return of point-to-pointing. Positioned wide throughout, he came through to take a share of the lead at the third last and from that point was always catching the eye going best of all. In the end he only had to be pushed out hands and heels to win as he liked with what seemed to be any among in hand.
