Less than a month after finishing fifth behind the impressive Silver Forever on her debut at Bartlemy, Newtown Lakama produced a much improved effort to run out a battling winner at Kinsale on the final weekend of the season. Walter Crean’s homebred, who is under the care of Colin Bowe and a half-brother to dual hurdle winner Steel Bob, was patiently ridden towards the rear of the main group for much of the race. Declan Queally attempted to make his move down the inner after jumping the third-last, however a gap was closed on her approaching the home bend which could so easily have proved costly. To her credit, once getting into the home straight, she quickly cut through the field to prove her resolution and out-battle the odds-on favourite, her stable companion the previous Bartlemy second Takingitallin.
