P2P.ie Review Red Lion Lad is a horse that has a lot of things going in his favour. Being out of a half-sister to Paul Nicholls’ eight-time Grade 1 winner Master Minded and by the champion sire Flemensfirth, he featured among the top five purchases at last year’s Goffs Land Rover Sale when bought for €155,000, and he duly delivered on that lofty price tag with a winning competitive debut at Ballyarthur in mid-March. Although coming under pressure when getting in tight to the penultimate fence, he responded well to lead before the last before powering clear on the run-in and hit the line full of running as his other rivals faltered in the testing conditions. That saw him win by a double digit winning margin in a time 12 seconds faster than the day’s average, all of which points to a horse that has started life very promisingly.
