P2P.ie Review: A Distant Place gained a deserved success when running out a six-length winner in his five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Carrigarostig. The bay gelding, who is by the Japanese-bred stallion Sunday Break showed promise on his two autumn starts, most notably when coming third on his debut behind Castle Robin at Dromahane in November. The five-year-old, who was given a patient ride by Derek O’Connor in this nine-runner contest, began to progress nicely through the field on the long run from two out. He effortlessly started to pick up the pace before the penultimate fence, and once this obstacle was jumped, he started to pull clear of his rivals on the run-in, where he ultimately gained success over two horses that both finished second on their initial autumn starts. This €7,000 store sales purchase, that's out of a winning half-sister to French Grade 1 jumps winner Top Of The Sky, highlighted himself as an exciting sort, who could add further depth to his winning family for new connections.
