P2P.ie Review: How Much Is Enough showed the clear benefit of a summer break, stepping-up notably on the experience which she had gained last season when only narrowly beaten on her seasonal re-appearance at Loughrea. Appearing to handle the testing conditions well, the daughter of Moon Ballet raced up with the pace throughout and was sent to the front immediately after jumping the penultimate fence in a move which injected an increase to the tempo of the race. Battling well once re-joined in the home straight, she fought gamely up the extended run-in, going down by just a neck at the line. Out of a Slip Anchor mare who won twice on the level, she is a half-sister to four winners on the track.
P2P.ie Review: Placed at Loughanmore’s Easter fixture on the second of her three starts last season, Smiling Jessica made a winning seasonal re-appearance at Toomebridge on the opening day of the season. Despite only taking on three rivals, this race contained plenty of recent form lines with the third-placed Knocklayde Sno Cat having finished placed on no fewer than eight occasions on the track including on four occasions during the summer, where she was only beaten a short-head at Cartmel in a maiden hurdle against geldings’, whilst Askyourmammy who finished in fourth position at Toomebridge, had finished last season with four straight placed efforts. Galloping on strongly having been sent for home along the back straight, she was always holding the runner-up, an ex-track recruit, to score by two lengths. The Golden Tornado mare is a half-sister to point and chase winner The Bishop.
This 4yo was the impressive 4 ½ length winner of his Bumper on his only start. Trained by David Loder, he is a brother to French listed hurdle winner & Gr 3 placed Nando. Racing Post comment: "He responded well to pressure on debut and overcame inexperience to win quite takingly."
P2P.ie Review: Following his debut fourth at Maralin late last season, Not A Role Model posted an encouraging effort on his seasonal re-appearance at Tinahely earlier this month when finishing second behind the previously placed Manitowoc County. Racing prominently throughout in a strongly run race which clocked the quickest time of the day, some 12 seconds faster than the day’s average on Good ground, this son of Helissio made much of the running in the second-half of the contest before ultimately finishing an encouraging second, some 12 lengths clear of the third-placed Graystown, a horse who had chased home Judgement Day, a £145,000 purchase by Willie Mullins at the Goffs UK Aintree sale at Liscarroll last season.
P2P.ie Review: The once previously raced Storm In December, who pulled-up on his debut at Belharbour in the first four-year-old maiden of the spring four-year-old campaign last February, returned from an eight month break a much stronger performer, as he was the only horse in the nine-strong field capable of landing a serious challenge to the impressive Prairienative, a horse who was well thought of by his connections, connections who have in the recent past debuted subsequent Grade 1 winner Yorkhill at the same Antrim venue. Storm In December raced prominently throughout, holding the advantage for much of the final circuit, before only surrendering the lead after the final fence, ultimately returning just two lengths behind the winner with a significant 18 lengths back to the third-place finisher. On this evidence, he will likely not remain a maiden for long.
Trained by Stuart Crawford, who sold the very impressive recent Bumper winner Ravenhill Road at Doncaster in May, this 4yo filly was the 3 ¼ length winner of a Bumper at Perth on 22 Sept. The second horse, Woodfort, gave the form a solid update when scoring well by 5 lengths on his next start at Ffos Las on 15 Oct.
Another from David Loder, this 4yo daughter of Schiaparelli finished third on her first and only start in a Bumper at Towcester on 5 Oct only beaten 3 ½ lengths by the winner. She is a sister to 5 winners with her dam being a half-sister to the high class hurdler Relkeel. The Racing Post comment: "Chased leaders, ridden and outpaced 5f out, rallied over 1f out, kept on strongly to go 3rd well inside final furlong and finishing best of all."
P2P.ie Review: Progressing with each of his three starts to date, Ballyhome was a clear class above his six rivals when getting off the mark at Loughanmore earlier this month. An encouraging third on his seasonal re-appearance at Toomebridge a fortnight earlier, the son of Westerner showed the clear benefit for that first completed effort as he comfortably got off the mark in testing conditions. Positioned at the fore throughout, once kicking clear early in the home straight, the bay gelding easily asserted a clear advantage over his rivals, winning without having ever having had to be hard-driven, ensuring that he looks value for more than the winning margin suggests. Showing a good turn of foot, he is out of a capable six-time winning French mare who was a forward type winning on three occasions as a three-year-old alone, and Ballyhome should be capable of continuing this winning on the track this season.
Winner of 5yo+ Mares Maiden point-to-Point at Portrush on 22 Oct by 3 lengths.
P2P.ie Review: The Whitmore’s Conn mare Hide The Biscuit has shown a notable improvement in form in recent times since joining the Mervyn Torrens yard. Having ran six-times for her previous connections, she finished second in a 15-runner Bumper at Down Royal on her debut for Torrens, before returning between the flags on her second start for his yard at Portrush when winning by three lengths. Despite making a number of jumping errors, including a notable mistake at the penultimate fence which could very easily have proved costly, the six-year-old was still capable of finding plenty in the closing stages to overcome the Stuart Crawford-trained Knocklayde Sno Cat, a horse who has finished placed on six occasions inside the rails already this year, ensuring potential purchasers can take confidence from the form of the race.
